How can we, as a learning community, define and celebrate moments when we are Brave?
I don't have any photos of the awesomeness that occurred this past Monday Morning Meeting (so please send some my way) but I must say that I was super excited to work with Ms. Dickens and share QAE's year long theme: "Mistakes are welcome here".
In conjunction, each month we will explore a character trait tied to our theme and for the month of October it is BRAVE! Be on the lookout, recognizing and defining what Brave is to you. For Ms. Dickens and I, Dr. Seuss and the Lorax became our inspiration as being Brave is speaking for someone who has no voice (and that someone might be YOU!). We also threw it back upon the classes to explore this month's character trait in class and fill in their own Truffula Tree with their findings. The last Monday Morning Meeting of October we will share our findings as a school along with a great video!

Let me just preface by saying how much I love word clouds. Taken from sticky notes or journals, their responses and thoughts can be visually displayed and organized in an engaging and beautiful way. Words mentioned multiple times are larger, therefore word clouds become a great way to see what we are saying.

Tying Plant Science into our PBL
Last week we opened up and dug into our Plant Science Kit! Good timing as we explore the life cycle of a Wisconsion Fast Plant, we can build our background knowledge and tie our observations to seasonal change and migration! I am super impressed with this group of scientists! Their scientific drawings and observations look like they come from one of the non-fiction books we are exploring! To help set a groundwork for what our observations and illustrations might look like, we used this helpful anchor chart. |
