Unlike fiction reading, non fiction often requires or inspires us to STOP, THINK, and REACT. Using myself as an example, I have a hard time getting through a non fiction book or text without the urge to talk about it! Sometimes in the form of sticky notes to save discussion for later, or sometimes in the crowded margins of an article, I can't help writing down new learning, interesting details, and my personal reactions to what I am reading. A good article almost demands as much from us! These past few weeks we have been exploring non fiction text features, fix up strategies for when our meaning breaks down, and asking meaningful questions to guide our reading. |
